Halifax, NS – Atlantic Canada’s largest boat show returned to Halifax Exhibition Centre February 9th through 12th. Once again this year, the Halifax International Boat Show featured hundreds of exhibitors with the largest and most sought-after brands of boats and equipment from across the region.
“Even with a number of impending and actual weather ‘events’, the show enjoyed a brisk attendance, especially on Sunday, pre-snowmageddon,” said Show Manager Scott Sprague. “We heard lots of feedback from dealers that visitors were serious about buying and that business was solid throughout the four days of the event.”
Highlights from this year’s edition included marauding pirates, floating mermaids, model boat builders, and pleasure craft operator card testing right on site, courtesy of BOATsmart! A new element for 2017 was the Traditional Marine Outfitters Nautical Retail section, which was a fantastic addition to the event with new show décor and great deals on decorative items for visitors to browse and buy. Thanks to Boatdealers.ca for providing an online shopping experience prior to the event, as well as Discover Boating and Paddle Canada, who hosted seminars at the show.
Discover Boating also deserves thanks for hosting an all-new Poker Run, which was a fun and interactive way for visitors to tour the show. Congratulations to Verona Leslie who was the winner of the poker run and won a prize package courtesy of DSS Marine, Municipality of Argyle, Skippers’ Plan Marine Insurance, Iron Wind Marine, Sainte-Famille Wines, Sunnybrook Yachts, and Investors Group.
The always popular Halifax International Boat Show Facebook Photo Contest once again took place this year, with well over 100 entries! This year there were two themes: Best Boating Time and All Paws on Deck. The first place winner in the Best Boating Time category was Mel MacNeil, with runner up Stephen Cantwell. First place in the All Paws on Deck category was Macy May. All photos can be viewed on the Halifax International Boat Show Facebook page. Congratulations to the winners and thanks to everyone who entered!
Congratulations also to Dan Everson, winner of the show’s amazing door prize sponsored by Q104: a Weekend Getaway at Atlantica Oak Island Resort & Conference Centre, including a two-night stay, breakfast and dinner daily, and a $120 Aqua Spa voucher!
